Applications and Enrollment
Obtaining a Designated Subjects CTE Credential is a multi-step process that will be guided by FCSS to ensure all requirements are met for a successful application.
Step 1: Pre-Screening
The first step in the Designated Subjects CTE Credential Program is the pre-screening process. Please click on the documents below to learn more.
Step 2: Application
Step 2 will only begin after you receive an approval email from Step 1 (Pre-Screening) from the Program Director. Once accepted you will need to complete Step 2, the application process. Click here to view the Step 2 Application Checklist. The approval email from the Program Director will include a secure folder link that you will put all required documents in for Step 2.
- Complete the 41-4 Form
- Complete the FCSS DS CTE Credential Application
- Complete the Intent to Complete Form
- Fingerprinting - If you hold a valid Certificate of Clearance, please upload a copy of the certificate to your secure folder link. Do not fingerprint or reapply for the Certificate of Clearance. Move to #5.
- Complete the Request for Live Scan Service form for fingerprinting (Print a copy once complete)
- Make a fingerprinting appointment with any Live Scan Service. Take the completed Request for Live Scan Service form with you. There will be a fingerprint cost to you.
- Once your fingerprints are completed, you will then create an account on the CTC site (https://www.ctc.ca.gov/) to apply for your Certificate of Clearance. Make sure you apply for the “Certificate of Clearance”. There is a CTC fee you will need to pay online. You will receive an email from CTC when your Certificate of Clearance (COC) is granted.
- Early Orientation Course
- You will receive a CANVAS Link to the Early Orientation course from the Program Director in your approval email from Step 1 (Pre-Screening).
- Once all of your required documents are uploaded (to your secure folder link) and approved, the Program Director will submit the online recommendation to CTC for your preliminary CTE Credential. After, you will receive an email from CTC with the next steps for the online application & payment process. Process/pay for your credential as soon as you receive the email. Once that is complete you will receive an email with your recommendation letter attached.
Step 3: DS CTE Credential Program Orientation
Once Step 2 has been completed and before enrolling in course work, candidates must attend the DS CTE Credential Program Orientation in Year 1 and Year 2. The orientation will cover DS CTE program expectations and program requirement timelines, among other pertinent information.
DS CTE Credential Program Candidates Support
- Receive support from a FCSS Mentor in Year 1
- Receive support from FCSS Program Support, District Supervising Administrator, and Site Mentor in Year 2
- Complete Portfolios in Year 1 and Year 2 during clinical practice
- Will be observed and will receive program evaluations twice each year
- Will present a Final Portfolio to FCSS Program Staff and Site Administration
